Proroute H685 4G Routers

The Proroute H685 4G Router has quickly established itself in the UK as the leading M2M 4G Router with over 400 units sold in the first twelve weeks since it’s launch.

This compact 4G router uses a Sierra Wireless 4G LTE module offering download speeds up to 100Mbps and upload speeds up to 50Mbps.  It is also backwards compatible with 3G services including 3.9G DC-HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps), 3.75G HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps), 3.5G HSPA+ (up to 14.4Mbps), 3G HSPA (up to 7.2Mbps), UMTS (up to 3.6Mbps) and also works with EDGE and GPRS data connections fo those areas in the UK still struggling to get 3G services, never mind higher speed 4G.

Proroute H685 4G Router

Offering a single LAN Ethernet Port for wired LAN connectivity and built-in WiFi 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN connectivity, the Proroute H695 4G Router also includes a WAN port offering the ability for the Proroute H685 4G router to work as a failover 4G router so it can use the internet connection offered via the WAN port and if the connection to the internet via WAN is lost then the router can activate the 4G SIM card and start using the 4G service until the internet connection via the WAN port is available again.

The Proroute H685 4G Router includes all the features you would expect from an M2M router including 4G network keep alive features to ensure a reliable 4G connection as well as extra redundancy features like SMS reboot and also the ability to get the status of the router via SMS showing the router IP address, signal strength and router connectivity status.

Proroute have advised that they will be building upon the success of their 4G routers by offering later in the year a big brother to the H685 which will provide 4 x LAN Ethernet Ports, 1 x WAN Port, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Dual SIM Slots to enable the router to fail over to a second network or the router can be configured to monitor the bandwidth used and notify the user by SMS when reaching their limit and also switch to the second SIM card when the limit is reached.  It looks like it will be a good year for 4G.

4G100W 4G Router From Netcomm

Since the launch of 4G services in the UK in December 2012 there have been an increase in the availability of 4G Routers which enable users to share their 4G mobile broadband service with multiple computers.  Just like the widely available 3G routers that are commonly used for home, business and M2M (remote monitoring and management) applications, many users of 3G are looking for a 4G router that they can deploy that can take advantage of the new faster download and upload speeds promised by 4G networks.

The Netcomm 4G100W is a home or small business 4G LTE Router that is easy to use and packed with functionality.  Simply insert your 4G SIM inside the SIM card slot of the 4G100W router, power up the unit and in most cases it will automatically connect to the 4G network ready to provide wired and wireless internet access for multiple computers and network devices.

The Netcomm 4G Router is available from selected online retailers and is prices at around £330.00.

Whilst suitable for home and small business use, we dont think that this 4G router is the ideal choice for M2M applications but with the limited choice of 4G M2M routers available many companies will be tempted to try it out so they can see what 4G Speed Test Results they can obtain to see if 4G services deliver the promise of higher speed wireless broadband.

At the time of writing this we are only aware of the Proroute 4G Router which offers an industrial grade 4G router solution which uses the Sierra Wireless 4G LTE module and is backwards compatible with HSPA+ 3G network services so can be deployed in 3G or 4G service areas and provide a reliable 3G or 4G mobile broadband connection for M2M applications such as 4G CCTV, energy and water monitoring and digital signage.

4G LTE Router Speed Test – How Fast Is 4G?

Using a 4G LTE Router, in this case the 2N Speedroute 4G Router we will attempt to discover how fast is 4G?

Everything Everywhere, the owner of Orange and T-Mobile have been given the go-ahead by OFCOM, the UK Communications Authority to roll out 4G services on their existing 1800mhz licence. This means that millions of homes and businesses could get super fast 4G Internet by the end of 2012. EE (Everything Everywhere) are rolling out their 4G service which they are calling 4GEE, to 16 UK cities by Christmas 2012 and what better present for these homes and businesses than a 4G LTE Router so they can ditch their wired broadband service and use the new high speed 4G Wireless Broadband Internet service. But how fast is 4G? Unfortunately we can’t answer that question yet, because although we have an LTE Router, we don’t yet have a 4G SIM Card or confirmation from EE about the locations currently running their 4G LTE service.

As soon as we get this information and a 4G SIM we will do our tests and update this post.

In the mean time you might want to know How Fast Is 3G – you will be surprised.
